Since moving to Spotify and her new lounge-style set-up, Alex Cooper has been using the Sennheiser MD 46 cardioid interview microphone.
This is an interesting choice as it’s not a commonly used podcast microphone and it makes me think it may have been an aesthetic decision.
The Sennheiser MD 46 is a high-quality dynamic cardioid microphone that’s designed for live reporting, broadcasting environments and interview situations.
In previous podcasts, Alex has used the gold-standard Shure SM7B microphone. In terms of audio quality, this is the best you can get and it’s also used by the likes of Joe Rogan, Rich Roll, Russell Brand and more.
However, the Call Her Daddy Podcast sounds great with the Sennheiser MD 46 and, at $150 cheaper, it may be a perfectly adequate option for any podcaster.

In her current Call Her Daddy set-up, Alex doesn’t use headphones at all, opting for a more personal experience with guests.
However, she’s previously used both the Sony MDR7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone and the low-budget LyxPro HAS-10 Headphones (pictured above).
I think the LyxPro Headphones must have come with a studio she was hiring for a while. They’re really cheap on Amazon, but don’t deliver the same audio quality as the Sony MDR7506 and other studio headphones.
